OVERVIEW
iMedia Brands has very large and complex structured and unstructured datasets that span linear television, connected TV, OTT, eCommerce, digital advertising, fulfillment services, catalog, retail storefronts, and call centers. iMedia Brands seeks a data scientist who applies their expertise in statistics and building machine learning models to make predictions and answer key business questions. The ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. You must have strong experience using various data mining/data analysis methods, building, and implementing models, algorithms, and simulations. The right candidate will be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams. This position will initially have one direct report and reports to the VP of Data Solutions within iMedia Digital Services.

LOCATION: This role can be base in Boulder, CO; Buffalo, NY; Ottawa, NY; Remote North America

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with Data Engineers to clean and organize data for maximum usability.
Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
Work with company stakeholders to identify opportunities for leveraging data to develop and improve customer engagement, product development, and omnichannel marketing strategies.
Mine, analyze, and develop machine learning and predictive models to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation, ad targeting, text classification, omnichannel optimization, attribution measurement, and other business outcomes.
Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance, quality, and data accuracy, including A/B testing frameworks.
Provide leadership and career path development for data analysts to help the organization solve problems through data collection, analytics & insights, and activation strategies and product development.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
5-7 years of experience manipulating data sets and building predictive models in the adtech or martech industry, preferably with a Masters or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or another quantitative field
You value data as a representation of the customer and have a sincere appreciation for respecting data to maximize the customer experience.
Familiarity with data management, customer data and customer relationship platforms (DMP, CDP, CRM); data lakes; identity solutions and tools; consent management platform (CMP); and various Internet Advertising Bureau standards and frameworks.
A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
Experience working with and creating data architectures.
Knowledge and experience in statistical, data cleansing, and data mining techniques such as GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, properties of distributions, statistical tests.
Experience creating and using advanced machine learning algorithms such as simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees, neural networks.
Experience with big data tools and technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Hive, Pig; relational SQL and NoSQL databases; Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow; AWS cloud services; Storm, Spark-Streaming; Scala, etc.
Coding knowledge and programming experience with several languages: C, C++, Java, JavaScript, and especially R and/or Python to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
You have a strong analytical mind to bring together unstructured and disparate data sets quickly.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
You are an independent, self-starter who enjoys solving unique and challenging data problems.
You demonstrate clear and concise communication and data-driven decision-making among a collaborative team of data-minded business and technical co-workers.
Passion for data and solving customer problems collaborating as part of a broader team
