Remote eligible within M's footprint Overview:Ensures payroll is processed with speed and accuracy. Complete analyses prepare reports and perform regular and complex payroll activities with a strong focus on high volume, multi states for large banking organization. In addition, performs a variety of complex accounting duties in the preparation, processing and maintenance of payroll, salary, and tax remittance. Considered subject matter expert (SME) for US and Global Payroll and payroll system, Workday.Primary Responsibilities:Works with General Accounting to ensure the accuracy of the ledger entries, generating payroll reports for managers and senior management. Responsible for the preparation of internal and external reporting, the monthly accrual process, including the development and distribution of bi-weekly accrual/expense reports.Analyze accounts for accuracy of entries. Responds to requests from other Bank personnel regarding account variances. Prepares detailed account analyses, meeting with other Bank personnel to discuss and resolve payroll account issues or for reporting to upper management.Will work with Payroll Accountant in support of the following duties: Prepares daily, monthly, and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations to include: - reconciliation of all HR general ledger and checking accounts for all pay companies. - preparation of general ledger entries. - reconciliation of state unemployment accounts. - reconciliation of biweekly salary settlement accounts.Verifies compliance with federal and state payroll requirements; stays current with changes in the law.Develops controls to ensure appropriate compliance with policies and procedures. Train payroll department colleagues. Makes recommendations to develop and enhance policy, process, and controls.Works with other department partners to ensure accuracy of debits and credits. Researches account issues for HR management.Audits employee pay records and reconciles totals by department, location, country, etc.Interprets pay policies, (e.g., PTO, disability, withholding exemptions, etc.) and ensures appropriate amounts/deductions are calculated and applied to the various accounts correctly.Registers Bank for payment of taxes in new states; prepares salary reversals and resolves tax issues with IRS. Works with Legal regarding issues of tax registering.Processes payment of federal, state, and local taxes on a bi-weekly, quarterly, and annual basis. Ensures taxes are being paid for the correct company and location.Prepares adhoc data analysis to include bank-wide incentive plan spending and cost modeling as necessary to support senior management and other internal client requests.Coordinates system integration, implementations, and upgrades.Perform project-oriented assignments to include researching data, compiling information, and prepare formal results on results and recommendations.Understand and adhere to the Companys risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Companys Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M Bank and Wilmington Trust brands.Maintain M and Wilmington Trust internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.Complete other related duties as assigned. Scope of Responsibilities:Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles.Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.Strong ability to analyze tax problems, maintaining controls necessary to meet all regulations in a timely manner. Strong process execution and advanced analytical skills for process support and reconciliations.Manages program and project implementation and makes significant contributions to department goals and planning efforts.Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments. Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:May supervise the activities of others. Education and Experience Required:Bachelors degree and 5 years relevant experience to include Workday system, payroll and time tracking (including global, multi state jurisdictions and overall compliance) and tax experience or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years higher education and/or work experience including a minimum of 5 years relevant experience to include Workday system, payroll and time tracking (including global, multi state jurisdictions and overall compliance) and tax experience.Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax withholding laws and regulations.Proficient in use of pertinent word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation. software, as well as pertinent HR systems.Ability to use discretion, maintains confidentiality, and use sound independent judgment.Strong stakeholder management skills.Strong customer focus.Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.Strong verbal and written communication skills. Education and Experience Preferred:Certified payroll professional (CPP).Sound experience showing fast response time, consistency, and success.Excellent communication and relationship building skills.Strong decision-making ability.Ability to function in a high volume, fast-paced environment.Ability to handle conflict from varying parties, up to and including senior management. #LI-RS1LocationBuffalo, New York, United States of America
