Position Summary The HR Manager's primary function will be to manage and organize the HR activities in the United States with a total headcount around 200 employees (plus temporary associates). This position is responsible for managing activities to support all areas of human capital management including recruitment and development, new hire orientation, payroll and time & attendance support, benefits administration, labor law compliance, performance management and goal setting, and employee relations. The HR Manager acts as an agent of change, working alongside senior management to establish a high performing and engaging culture that both aligns with corporate strategy, supports our growth strategy and enhances the capability and effectiveness of the organization's employee talent. Core responsibilities will include the following areas: Manages the development and implementation of a positive, responsible employee relations program. Works alongside their counterpart in Canada and the VP, HR to handle employees' needs and issues. Manages, reviews, coordinates, and, as necessary, carries out employee discipline procedures including verbal and written warnings, performance improvement plans, and termination procedures. Responsible for guiding and coaching Managers through the discipline process including providing talking points, coordinating proper documentation and upholding consistency and equal treatment throughout the organization. Builds and maintains a strong, functional team through an effective recruiting and hiring process. Ensure applicants are pre-screened and that qualified candidates are provided to Hiring Managers for selection process. Performs background and reference checks for final candidate(s). Works with hiring managers to seek final hiring approval from Department Heads. Manages and oversees US employee on-boarding and orientation programs. Organizes and manages the annual Performance Review process including providing Managers and Department Heads with feedback and guidance on writing reviews, staff development and skills training, and career planning/mapping. Regular updating of benchmarking reports of labor market rates in our industry and geographic regions. US payroll processing support, administration, and reporting. Maintains a human resource information system that meets the organization's personnel information and reporting needs. Helps support and answer employee questions on all US employee benefits programs. Works with the Benefits Manager to recommend benefit additions/changes as necessary based on industry and national trends. Filing all Worker's Compensation claims as well as being a member of the Health & Safety committees. Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements BA/BS in HR, Business, Psychology, or related degree required with 3-5 years HR field experience. Heavily focused in the areas of recruitment, employee relations, payroll & benefits, and US labor law enforcement in New York and other states (with California experience a plus). Knowledge of federal and state employment and labor laws. Ability to work in the strictest sense of privacy and confidentiality. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability and experience communicating and building relationships with all levels of employee talent from warehouse personnel to executive leadership. Strong attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Strong leadership, coaching, and critical thinking skills. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and excel in a fast-paced, ever changing, entrepreneurial environment. Experience within the Logistics/Supply Chain industry a plus. Commitment to excellence and dedicated to continuous improvement. Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook). Experience with Payroll & HRIS systems, time & attendance systems, and compensation and benefits systems/online platforms. Flexibility to work mornings, nights, and weekends (as required) to meet commitments and deliverables. Travel required on a semi-regular basis (10-15%) Passport / ability to enter CA for meetings required.
