For more information, please visit us at www.xylem.com . **The Role:** This position is accountable to issue, update and monitor the written programs related to the EHSS&S Department (Environmental, Health, Safety, Sustainability & Security). To serve as a skilled technical resource to site management and the Americas Manufacturing EHSS&S Director. To provide leadership and incorporates EHSS&S into the local culture and processes. To evaluate current events, regulations and laws in order to ensure that all EHSS&S programs remain in compliance. To supervise the activities of the local EHSS&S staff. Position reports directly to the Americas Manufacturing EHSS&S Director and dotted line to facility Sr. Director of Operations. **Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:** + Develop and administer programs to ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA and other EHS related federal, state and local regulations, + Provide EHSS&S leadership, direction and influence for site supervision and management to implement multifaceted EHSS&S responsibilities into daily work processes including: accident investigation, machine safety, ergonomics, waste/emissions reduction, job safety analysis, inspections and program assessment activities. + Develop on-going employee training programs, emergency contingency plans, communications, policies and procedures. Conduct monthly safety and new hire training. Track success of EHSS&S training program via training tracking system or process and update training to meet new regulatory requirements. + As a key member of the Buffalo Leadership Team, provide input, insight, and strategy for short/long term decision making and planning for the safety protocols in the manufacturing and foundry operations. + Work in a team environment to initiate corrective action resulting from audits, inspections, accident investigations and program assessments. + Review new product lines and chemicals to determine health hazard potentials, and proper hazardous waste classifications. Provide plant personnel appropriate advice and training on potential exposures and provide Material Safety Sheets to customers upon request. + Administer company hazardous, non-hazardous waste, energy and recycling programs. + Responsible for updating EHSS&S Standards as regulations change. Responsible for communication of all standard requirements to the user community. + Provide support and oversight to multiple Xylem locations. + Coordinate with responsible staff to ensure all activities required to investigate, remediate or improve processes as a result of an accident are properly conducted. + Periodically review programs and establish goals for improvement. Concentrate improvement targets on high value programs such as injury prevention, waste reduction and high potential accident reduction. + Ensure that EHSS&S metrics and compliance data input is completed and milestones are tracked. + Ensure that employee feedback and information for metrics and action plans are received. Work with employees to enhance programs as needed to collect data and achieve requirements. + Development and maintenance of the Emergency Response Team including: a) maintenance of plans and documents, b) development of overall strategy for keeping the team members trained and interested in the hazmat process, c) plan for annual exercises, d) communication of plans to outside agencies as needed, e) establish and maintain ties required by law to outside spill contractors and agencies and plans. + Ensure familiarity with most basic needs and requirements in the EHSS&S area + Ensure that all programs are documented so that processes do not ?fall through the cracks? if someone leaves, become ill or is on vacation. + Serve as an EHSS&S resource for all special needs. + Serve as back-up for Director of EHSS&S and site staff as necessary, + All other duties as assigned **Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:** + BA or BS Degree in Environmental Health and Safety related science degree such as Biology, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Safety or Environmental Science. Other degrees may substitute if equivalent OTJ or educational experiences is shown. + A minimum of 5-7 years related experience preferred. + An in-depth understanding of federal, state, and local EHS laws. Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate management skills (i.e.; time management, interpersonal skills, team-building, decision making, interaction management) **Preferred Qualifications:** + Experience in medium to heavy manufacturing environment. + Experience in a union environment. + Certification as a CSP is preferred. **Physical Demands:** (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
