Weeks Short Description: Med/Surg RN Full Time (36 hours) 2 on call
shifts in 4 weeks Rotational D/N/W/Holidays Required: NYS RN
Licensure Required Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS (AHA or RQI
only), NIHSS FT 3x12s - Day or Night shifts scheduled as needed
EOW, Holidays 2 OC shifts per 4 weeks. Complete Description: The
Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical,
and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate
care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse
assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration
with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates
patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the
patient’s episode. The RN on 3 North develops specialized skill in
the area of patient admitted for medical conditions. He/She
provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with
medical conditions. The 3 North RN is accountable for patient
family education to assist in understanding self care beyond
hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and
healing. The 3 North Registered Nurse is expected to promote
comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment. Job
Functions: -Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of
care. -Assesses patient / family needs through active listening,
social perceptiveness (being aware of others' reactions and
understanding why they react as they do), and analyzing data or
information obtained through direct observation/assessment,
technology, or health team communication. Creates a developmentally
and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of
care to address the nature and scope of the health problems
identified. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician,
and healthcare team members, sets goals and monitors the patient’s
progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or
change in condition/reprioritization of needs. -Promotes, advocates
for and protects the health, safety and rights of the patient.
Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among
team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome.
Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions
consistent with the individual’s education, training, and scope of
practice. Understands the personal responsibility to safeguard
public safety through compliance with infection prevention
strategies. -Motivates the patient/family by teaching them what is
needed to continue care/healing at home. Assesses the
patient/family learning styles and structures the sessions to
maximize understanding. Seeks “teachable” moments during the care
delivery process to emphasize pertinent information. Asks questions
to evaluate retention of key points in the self care process.
Provides tools and information to assist the patient’s family after
discharge. Documents the education provided and the patient/family
response to the education. -Systematically evaluates quality and
effectiveness of Nursing Practice and uses the results of quality
improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing
practice and care delivery. Engages in self-evaluation of practice,
identifying strengths and areas in which professional development
would be beneficial. Takes accountability to increase knowledge and
enhance skill. Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths
and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches
to problems. -Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a
meaningful connection with patient/family. -Seeks to develop a
helping, trusting, and caring relationship by being present in the
moment of interaction, listening, communicating, engaging, and
anticipating the patient/family needs. Strives to understand what
is most important to the patient/family, acknowledging that the

application of interventions including medication administration.
Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably
anticipated. Required tasks involve a potential contact with blood,
body fluids, and tissues. Skills: Skill Required / Desired Amount
of Experience Expertise Rating Move BLS, ACLS, NYS RN Licensure
