My client is a cutting edge designer/manufacturer of a wireless medical device and is searching for an experienced mechanical engineer from a medical device company.
Job Summary: Mechanical Engineer to research, ideate, develop, test, and improve the mechanical features for medical devices. Features include, but are not limited to, sealed housings, fluid valves, latch mechanisms, mounting supports for electronic hardware, etc.Principal Responsibilities:A. Think outside the box.B. Ideate innovative concepts for solving engineering challenges.C. Rapidly prove/disprove those concepts through feasibility testing, leveraging tools such as 3D printers.D. Write Engineering Development Plans for projects.E. Develop concise and intelligent Design Requirements, through collaboration with key cross-functional stakeholders.F. Read, understand, and design in compliance with applicable industry standards.G. Model designs in CAD and generate associated drawings with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing as appropriate for prototyping and production. H. Build prototypes for evaluation and testing.I. Conduct Design Reviews and Technical Reviews.J. Perform relevant design analysis, including analysis of:

  • Stress
  • Thermal
  • Tolerance Stack-up
  • Failure Modes and Effects
  • Manufacturability
  • Reliability
  • Serviceability
  • Write test plans and protocols for Verification of Design Requirements.
  • Perform statistical analysis on data.
  • Write reports to summarize results and conclusions.
  • Manage Design Configurations for clear traceability to what was tested.
  • Track and troubleshoot issues that are identified.
  • Continuously improve designs.
  • Continuously improve processes.
  • Contribute and support preparation of 510k submissions.
  • Support Design Transfer.
  • Drive success relentlessly.Additional Responsibilities:A. Work closely with system architects and other design engineers to ensure that the design meets the end users' needs.B. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:A. BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.B. 10+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer, preferably with a medical device.C. Excellent communication skills.Additional Qualifications; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:D. Experience with injection molding.E. Experience with destructive testing, such as Highly Accelerated Life Testing.F. Experience with fluid valve design preferred.G. Experience in the medical industry or another regulated field.H. Experience with IEC 60601 preferred.Environment:General office environment. Daily exposure to PCs and networks. May move heavy equipment and boxes.     Will consider hiring an engineer on a 100% remote basis for the ideal candidate that brings all of the skill sets to the table, but would prefer an in office or hybrid model.
