Job Description:
We are seeking one (1) RN Manager of Medical/Surgical and
Intensive Care UnitPRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the direct supervision
of the Chief Nursing Officer and Assistant Director of Nursing, the
Manager of Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care/Progressive Unit is
responsible for provision of professional nursing services
including the daily management and direction and supervision of
functions and activities (internal and external) specific to
assigned units. The manager participates in development of
departmental polices and standards of care and assists with quality
and risk management pertaining to the nursing units supervised. The
manager is an integral part of the Nursing Leadership team. The
manager collaborates with other nursing leadership, physicians, and
ancillary departments implementing and evaluating services,
programs, and activities with the goal of continuous performance.
The manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations and
coordination of care on the assigned units including responsibility
for cost center(s) budgets. The manager assists in supervision of
all acute nursing units, nursing service functions and activities
as requested by the CNO or their designee.BASIC
QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from a state-approved school of
nursingLicensed to practice, and registered under the laws of the
State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional
NurseBachelor of Science in Nursing requiredEvidence of leadership
and management continuing education activities.A broad knowledge of
nursing and ability to apply necessary skills and techniquesUnit
specific certification preferred to Medical/Surgical1 year of
experience as a nursing leader in area assigned with experience in
direct clinical supervision required.Current BLS, ACLS
certification.Completion of Critical Care CourseWORKING
CONDITIONS:Works flex times as unit requires. Working hours and
days as the position/situation requiresLifting weights over 25lbs.,
e.g., moving and lifting or helping lift patients of awkward
weights, carrying or moving equipment.May be called upon to perform
services or duties not specified in this job description yet are
within the purview of a licensed Registered Professional Nurse
and/or documented experience and training of the
employee.RESPONSIBILITIES:A. Provide day to day operational
services as assigned within the Medical/Surgical and Intensive
Care/Progressive Care Units.B. Serve on hospital and outside
committees as assigned.C. Participates in Emergency PreparednessD.
Maintains clinical competence in providing Nursing Care to all
patients regardless of setting.E. Acts as a nursing resource of all
nursing unitsF. Attends Inservice educational programs yearly.G.
Ensures overall functioning of the Medical/Surgical and ICU/PCU and
in collaboration with WCCHS managers, including but not limited to
practices of safety, infection control, maintenance of adequate
supplies, and a positive working relationship with other
departments within the facility.H. Responsible for assuring that
nursing care objectives are met for the Medical/Surgical and
ICU/PCU Units.I. The relationship of the nursing department/service
to other departments/services/units of the hospital is specified
within the overall hospital organizational plan.J. Facilitates a 2
way flow of information between nursing services personnel and the
CNO.K. Maintains direct patient contact and involvement in patient
care in all areas of the hospital.L. Maintains responsibility for
the investigation process of quality/risk issues in the
Medical/Surgical and ICU/PCU units.M. Organizes Medical/Surgical
and ICU/PCU structure and plans, direct, and supervises the Nursing
Services Department as required in collaboration with nursing
