THE CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT MANAGER AT CPL

The Civil Engineering Project Manager works with experienced AEC professionals to provide practical, inspired designs for infrastructure projects ranging widely in scope, including water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, stormwater, small roadway, and site development assignments.

Reporting to a designated Principal, you are responsible for developing proposals, establishing and maintaining project budgets, nurturing strong working relationships with clients from varying industries and providing oversight throughout all project phases. You serve as a mentor, teacher and advisor, guiding junior team members and eagerly passing along the wealth of valuable knowledge you've accumulated over the years.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • You have a thorough understanding of the foundational principles of engineering, physics and mathematics
  • You have in-depth knowledge of construction processes, plans and specifications, as well as their application and relevance to public works and construction projects
  • You can perform moderately difficult to challenging technical computations and consolidate pertinent data
  • You have expertise in AutoCAD, WaterCAD, SewerCAD or Civil 3D
  • You have a profound ability to prioritize and juggle critical tasks, seeing them through to completion while maintaining high design standards and adhering to established project timelines
  • You earned a BS (and/or MS) in civil engineering from an accredited institution
  • You have 8-15 years of civil engineering experience, with a track record of developing proactive designs for a broad range of project types
  • You maintain professional in-state engineering licensure - or will immediately apply for licensure SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS
    • You have excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational and technical skills
    • You utilize a strength-based approach to engage team members in their daily tasks, focusing on their capabilities rather than their weaknesses
    • You know how to coach your team both independently and as a whole, inspiring enthusiasm and providing encouragement when needed
    • You can establish short and long-term goals and create appropriate timelines for their completion, subsequently assigning specialized teams to accommodate related needs
    • You can communicate effectively with internal and external personnel
    • You can efficiently balance projects, teams, deadlines and budgets
    • You have an aptitude for creative problem-solving, particularly in time-sensitive situations which require fast turnaround CORE DUTIES
      • Work with clients, consultants and agencies to preplan project funding methods
      • Coordinate all project efforts - both administrative and technical - to ensure the most gainful and cost-effective outcome of assigned tasks
      • Supervise Project Engineers, Engineering Technicians and Interns by managing team member allocation and assessing the strengths of the project team to organize and regulate workload assignments
      • Schedule, lead and attend client vision sessions
      • Develop new relationships and work to enhance existing partnerships
      • Write project proposals, assisting in marketing efforts to grow CPL's business
      • Provide management of internal finances, including billing, invoice generation and asset/resource allocation
      • Perform quality assurance/control on others' work, verifying methodologies, calculations, outcomes, etc.
