Job Description:

Hiring: Sustainable Enterprise Manager (PUSH Blue) -About the Sustainable Enterprise Manager (PUSH Blue) PositionPeople United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH Buffalo) seeks a Sustainable Enterprise Manager that is responsible for PUSH Buffalo's green infrastructure, stormwater management and sustainable landscaping program/social justice enterprise business, known as PUSH Blue. -About PUSH BuffaloPUSH Buffalo is a community-based non-profit located on Buffalo's West Side. The organization was founded in 2005 as a membership organization that would combine community development and community organizing activities to address displacement and improve Buffalo's West Side. Our mission today is to mobilize residents to create strong neighborhoods with quality affordable housing; to expand local hiring opportunities; and to advance social, economic and environmental justice in Buffalo. At PUSH we know that our current systems are not designed for the sustainable, regenerative future we need in our neighborhoods, cities, regions, states, and country. By design, they put people over corporate profit, and fail to address the disproportionate marginalization of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), and poor and working-class communities. At PUSH, we build community power for a Just Transition by organizing people and money to secure housing, climate, and environmental justice campaign victories that lead to transformative, structural change. At the same time, we work to develop and implement community-based solutions on the ground in our neighborhood.About the StrategyIn 2013, PUSH launched PUSH Blue to create a variety of storm water retention interventions throughout PUSH's twenty-five block Green Development Zone. Capital investments in stormwater infrastructure provide a unique opportunity for green job creation at a neighborhood scale. Significant investments have been made by many lakefront cities, like Buffalo, to meet the labor demand of the rising green economy. PUSH aims to capture some of that job growth and wealth creation for low-income residents by providing extensive training and experience in landscaping and stormwater management techniques, a growing and necessary part of the green economy.Such efforts are part of PUSH's overall community jobs pipeline strategy of engaging low-income communities of color and disconnected workers in the struggle to create an equitable community-controlled green economy. PUSH has had significant success in training and employing workers in both the stormwater and energy retrofit sector. Such work builds the region's capacity to continue building and maintaining this infrastructure. Additionally, the strategy combines conventional workforce development activities - recruitment, referral, job development, and job placement - with opportunities for community building and leadership development.About the PositionCritical to that success is the PUSH Blue Sustainable Enterprise Manager (EM) who will oversee the development of PUSH Blue's expanding green infrastructure, stormwater management, and sustainable landscaping social justice enterprise business. The EM will be responsible for managing all related projects including existing stormwater management projects, creation of educational material surrounding best practices, supervision of internal and external landscaping/GI projects, and development of new lines of business. The EM also facilitates resource development opportunities, including the identification of, and submittal of applications to, potential funders and partners.
