Location: Buffalo, NY or open to full-time remote

*The ideal candidate would be located on the east coast


Responsible for the design, execution and reporting of primary and secondary research that drives strategic decision making with the company. This position supports all corporate business lines (Retail, Small Business, Commercial, and Wealth Management), working on a team acting as consultants with multiple stakeholders (Marketing, Product Development, Finance, Operations, etc.). - - Methodologies include qualitative and quantitative studies. Work to understand the business need, options available and potential constraints in order to design and execute research that clarifies critical issues and build consensus in decision making.

Primary Responsibilities:

Works with internal clients to define business decisions to be made and project scope. With minimal help, designs and develops a research plan to meet the need. - This may include complex, multi-phased research projects.
Designs and develops RFPs requesting complex multi phased projects.
With moderate senior manager input, explores potential vendors, evaluates initial RFPs, selects suitable finalists and recommends vendors to hire.
Oversees vendor relationship, monitors performance, identifies performance issues and suggests remedies.
Consults with vendor on project staffing and performance issues.
Monitors progress sometimes of multiple studies and validates the accuracy of data. Provides assistance in resolving simple data issues.
Compiles and analyzes survey data, sometimes from multiple studies. - Often identifies trends and draws conclusions. - Often takes into account secondary sources and industry knowledge.
Coordinates and analyzes focus groups.
Drafts or edits written reports and PowerPoint presentations which are clear, concise and easy to understand. - Presentations often provide actionable insight. - Presentations include departmental level insights and require minimal revision.
Presents findings / interpretations via PowerPoint presentations.to working team (independently) and to senior management.
Defend research data, build arguments and convince any audience.
Recognizes barriers to adoption and helps overcome them at the departmental level. Works with client to build consensus around strategic direction.
Assists in adoption of insights and strategy creation.
Manages research budget on a project by projects basis.
Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. - Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

This position reports to the Head of Market Research. - Project scope is typically on the department level. - Projects are a mix of strategic and tactical in nature. - Working team clients are normally VP level and below. - Project owners are normally Admin, Group and Senior VP level and above.

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:

Responsible for supervising vendors and may supervise 1-2 junior staff members.
Independently manages client contact at working team level ( VP and below).
Gives vendor and junior staff guidance on determining methods and procedures.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelors' degree
6 + years' of related experience
In lieu of degree 10+ years' related experience.
Highly proficient in presentation, word processing and spreadsheet software.
Working knowledge of SPSS, SAS or other statistical software and survey development tools.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Strong background in quantitative research (web, phone and mail) and qualitative research (in person/online focus groups and in-depth interviews), including survey design, data analysis and interpretation, report writing and presentation of key findings.
Working knowledge of a wide range of custom market research methodologies and techniques especially in the area of customer satisfaction/loyalty research, brand awareness/usage and new product development.
Very good organizational, communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy and follow-through and ability to handle multiple assignments and work well under pressure.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead departmental level teams.
Masters degree or PhD with a concentration in Statistics, Psychology or Marketing preferred.
Graduate degree.
Prior management experience.
