The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.What You'll get to Do:Northrop Grumman Amherst Systems is seeking an emerging leader to manage a team of highly motivated Digital and FPGA Design Engineers at our Buffalo office in NY. This group is responsible for the design of digital hardware sub-systems used in the testing of military radars, radar warning receivers, and jamming systems to protect the war fighter. These digital sub-systems consist of state-of-the-art custom designed and COTS circuit boards. This engineering group is also responsible for the development of high speed FPGA's residing on these circuit cards.Management roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:Lead a digital engineering group of 10 to 12 engineers including performance management, career development, staffing, and merit planning.Provide project and technical oversight for design activities performed by the digital group.Maintain and ensure application of design processes and guidelines used in the digital group.Develop proposal inputs and review proposal content for both internal and external customers.Collaborate with peer managers to ensure consistency across multiple work groups.Support department initiatives, recruiting, technology roadmap creation, cross-campus/sector involvement, and Internal Research & Development (IR&D) project leadership.Technical engineering roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:Responsibility as an Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead or technical lead on programs.Review and derive requirements, develop block diagrams, perform FPGA and circuit board design activities.Following successful design reviews, formally document the design for production, as well as support production.Support the integration and test of the final product at the customer's site which may include locations throughout the world.Continue to learn and apply the most advanced technology while being provided and trained in the latest digital design tools.Develop vendor technical relationships to ensure needed support is available to solve critical customer technical issues.This in an opportunity to implement digital engineering practices and procedures and work in a team environment with program managers, systems engineers, other hardware engineers and software engineers to ensure products are developed and managed using sector approved processes and tools.Utilize your problem solving skills to provide expertise for resolution of digital design issues; and will be comfortable providing direction to subordinates based on internal policies, procedures, and industry standards as well as being the primary provider of department management status.This is a dual role position serving as -15% functional management and -85% technical engineering activities on programs. This position reports directly to the Hardware Engineering Manager at the Buffalo site.Basic QualificationsBachelor's degree and 9+ years of relevant work experience, or Master's degree and 7+ years of work experience.Must have leadership experience either as a manager or technical leader.Strong organizational skills to coordinate work operations of employees on a daily basis.U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) clearance.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math).Electrical engineering experience including responsibility as an Integrated Product Team (IPT) or technical lead.Experience working in an Agile Scrum development environment.Technology simulation / model to support product development / verification.Experience with VHDL development in Intel / Altera FPGA families.Experience in digital, analog, and RF circuitry including design and troubleshooting.Working knowledge in electronic circuitry and design from schematic creation through fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting for digital, analog, and RF circuitry.Measurement of key performance parameters using analyzers, generators, oscilloscopes, and meters.Demonstrated leadership of diverse/inclusive teams.What We Can Offer You:Northrop Grumman provides a comprehensive benefits package and a work environment that encourages your growth and supports the mutual success of our people and our company.
