Job Description for Land Acquisition ManagerThe Land Acquisition Manager is primarily responsible for identifying and assisting with the purchase of land for future residential home building sites. This position reports directly to the Executive Vice President who oversees all land development activities for the company, and will have the following responsibilities:Responsibilities* Assist in the preparation of the annual strategic land-management/acquisition game plans.* Search for new land/lot acquisition opportunities in the Buffalo and Rochester market areas. * Take the lead role in the negotiation of purchase deals.* Prepare offers and purchase contracts for land and lots as required.* Complete land acquisition feasibility investigations.* Coordinate with sales and production complete market analysis as part of investigations. * Coordinate planning and design of projects as required.* Understand and oversee approvals as required.* Prepare preliminary development budgets as required.* With respect to the purchase of fully developed lots, the Land Manager will also assist the developer of the subdivision as needed to expeditiously complete the approvals for development of the lots.--Maintenance of schedules and preparation of reports is essential.* Ensure that business goals are adequately measured, managed, and achieved.* Run monthly and quarterly meetings to review land activities with senior management.* Identify potential obstacles/issues and coordinate issue resolution/problem solving with other functional teams.* Stay abreast of compliance and other regulatory changes that may affect the land and development business; report any relevant information to senior management. * Such other duties and special projects as assigned from time-to-time.Qualifications* Bachelor's Degree in engineering, architecture, urban planning, or a related field.* Minimum of 3+ years land acquisition, development, engineering, real estate, or related experience.* Knowledge of the local builder/real estate market would be helpful.* Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and related tools.Desired Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:* Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to present ideas and plans to senior management in a meaningful, understandable way.* Professional presentation.* Ability to question norms and respectfully challenge others.* Self-motivated, ability to work independently and collaboratively. * Robust understanding of internal corporate controls.* Detail-oriented, ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed-upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.* Proficiency in planning, analyzing, written, and oral communications.If you think you are this person, or you think you know this person, please apply through LinkedIn or email kristen@straussgroup.com with your resume.
