Sr. CAD Design Engineer

Tesla is recruiting for a Sr. CAD Design Engineer to play a key
role in the design, development, and troubleshooting of industrial
manufacturing and automation equipment. This person will use their
engineering expertise to drive in-house equipment projects as well
as to provide guidance and evaluate 3rd party equipment as needed.
The ideal candidate would be very hands-on, have manufacturing
equipment design experience, project leadership experience, and
adapt quickly to change.
Design and develop automated or semi-automated industrial
manufacturing equipment including: robots, end effectors, gantries,
mechanism design, material handling, solar cell wafer handling,
conveyor systems, automated carts, etc.
Create documentation to support design and development ideas
including detailed drawings, assembly instructions, work
instructions, procedures, BOMs, test results, presentations
Design and build test fixtures as needed using rapid prototyping
techniques, 3D printing, etc.
Perform FEA and/or experiments to make data driven design
Regularly present and defend data driven design choices
Interface with technical staff of different disciplines
(manufacturing engineers, process engineers, electrical engineers,
software engineers) to collaborate on design concepts and
specifications, project review, and execution planning in fast
Interface with vendors and machine shops to ensure swift and
accurate delivery of components and design parts
Manage or participate in the assembly of in-house designed
Work with cross-functional team to troubleshoot, improve, optimize
existing 3rd party factory equipment
Participate in new 3rd party equipment design evaluation
Drive other projects as needed by management or as business needs
BS or MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, similar degree, or
equivalent experience in 3D modeling, mechanism design, and
Experience with 2D/3D model is required, AutoCAD, SolidWorks
experience preferred, Catia experience is a plus, but not
Familiar with ASME Y14.5m GD&T and proper RMS, RSS plus/minus
tolerancing for assembly
Experience with pneumatic valve controls for actuator control and
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for full lifecycle
from project inception through testing, installation, and support
in a manufacturing environment
Detail-oriented, resourceful and able to manage shifting
Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team
environment with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated project leadership.
Ability to travel up to 15% when needed.
Robotics, Motor Selection and Machine shop experience is a plus
