We are seeking a Digital FPGA Engineer or Principal Digital FPGA Engineer to join Northrop Grumman's Digital Engineering team in Buffalo, NY. This team is responsible for the design of digital hardware/firmware sub-systems used in the testing of military radars, radar warning receivers, and jamming systems to protect the war fighter. These digital sub-systems consist of state-of-the-art custom designed and COTS circuit boards employing high-speed FPGA's. The candidate will support design efforts utilizing tools such as: Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Xilinx ISE/Vivado, Altera Quartus, ModelSim, and QuestaSim.Roles & responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Electronic circuit card design and packaging of electronic assemblies. Tasks include requirements development, circuit board schematic development, programmable logic VHDL development, product layout and design, design verification, creating engineering change orders, providing design review presentations and performing fundamental types of analysis (ie. power utilization, signal integrity, etc).
  • Manufacturing engineering liaison support and hardware testing,
  • Providing support to Systems Integration and Test operations.*This position may be filled as a Digital FPGA Engineer or a Principal Digital FPGA Engineer.Basic Qualifications for a Digital FPGA Engineer:
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline, plus 2 years of relevanttechnical/engineering experience.
    • Experience using VHDL for FPGA development.
    • Ability to apply and/or develop technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts.
    • Ability to change physical locations based upon need (including physical ability to travel). Typically, low percentage of travel may be required 10 - 20% annually.
    • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
    • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.Basic Qualifications for a Principal Digital FPGA Engineer:
      • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline, plus 5 years of relevant technical/engineering experience.
      • Experience using VHDL for FPGA development.
      • Ability to apply and/or develop technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts.
      • Ability to change physical locations based upon need (including physical ability to travel). Typically, low percentage of travel may be required 10 - 20% annually.
      • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
      • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.Preferred Qualifications?
        • Familiarity with Altera/Intel Quartus, ModelSim & QuestaSim FPGA development tools.
        • Familiarity with Xilinx ISE & Vivado FPGA development tools.
        • Familiarity with Mentor Graphics DxDesigner PWB development tools.
        • Relevant experience with electronic circuitry and design from schematic creation through fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting of digital circuitry.
        • Relevant experience in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment. Salary Range: $74,900 USD - $112,300 USD Salary Range 2: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
