Job Description:

Position: Electrical Engineer II (Liverpool, NY)

Duties: Focus on physical substation, protection, and control engineering for High Voltage Electric Utility projects, 12 kV through 500 kV. Responsible for overall project coordination and engineering design on assigned projects. Design various substation systems of varying size and complexity. Prepare preliminary designs and budgetary engineering and construction estimates. Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives. Perform detailed designs, leveraging the Company's and clients drawing systems and standards, industry standards as well as applicable industry standards including the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE. Prepare equipment and material specifications, proposal evaluations, and requisitioning. Prepare engineering calculations to ensure safety and performance of equipment and systems. Coordinate equipment delivery and design engineering to meet construction schedules. Gather on-site measurements and other data to accomplish the design or enable the evaluation of equipment performance. Perform the checking of completed engineering designs for adequacy of design and documentation and quality assurance. Monitor the construction of various electrical systems as assigned to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Monitor construction work to assure conformance with plans and specifications. Monitor work to assure compliance with applicable engineering and construction codes and practices. Monitor construction schedules to ensure timely completion of the work; direct changes to the work when requested by the Resident Engineer; and assist in receiving, inspection, and approval of equipment and materials. Act as Resident Engineer on projects of moderate size and complexity. Manage and coordinate the engineering effort on assigned projects. Assist in the preparation of proposals, work plans, project budget estimates, and schedules.

Requirements: Masters degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related field and 2 years of application experience with electric power systems, industry practices, and protection practices and philosophies, or in the alternative, Bachelors degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related field and 4 years of application experience with electric power systems, industry practices, and protection practices and philosophies. Must also possess the following skills: Demonstrated expertise (DE) designing transmission and distribution substation physical diagrams, focusing on above and below grade design, including electrical station layouts, electrical station plans, elevations and details, conduit plans and details, cable trench layout and details, duct bank plans and details, conduit and cable schedule, and control building design drawings; DE designing transmission and distribution substation protection and control diagrams, including single line diagrams, relay and control switchboard front views, schematic diagrams, physical arrangement drawings, wiring diagrams, communication diagrams, and RTU-specific diagrams; DE leveraging rigid and strain bus design theories, ground grid and direct stroke lightning engineering theories, client-specified yard lighting standards and applications, and cross-discipline collaboration to complete studies, reports, and detailed designs; and DE leveraging substation engineering design tools and software, including CDEGS, WinIGS, BAE battery sizing program, MicroStation V8i and Connect, AutoCAD and Visual to perform studies, calculations (Ground Grid, Direct Stroke Lightning, AC and DC Station Service, Battery Sizing, and Yard Lighting), and 3D substation modeling.
