Job Summary:

The Project Engineer role is part of the Design Engineering team whose responsibility is the successful completion of new engineered compressor contracts. Principal responsibilities include being the technical interface between Ingersoll Rand and customers, processing new orders, reviewing customer specifications, sizing and releasing accessories, leading the completion of customer documentation and performing general project administration.

Responsibilities:

1. Assists Tendering in the preparation of the Internal Compressor Specification (Order Write-Up) taking care to maintain the necessary discipline to transfer complete technical definition of the contract's requirements. The Project Engineer must review customer documentation and specifications with great attention to detail.

2. After acceptance of the initial order, the Project Engineer will release all contract accessories, including the main drive motor or turbine. The Project Engineer must review customer drawings and specifications to ensure that the technical requirements of the contract are being met. The Project Engineer will work with the Project Manager to determine price and delivery impacts of customer change orders. The Project Engineer must be able to effectively communicate with the customer as required throughout the life of the contract.

3. Attends internal and external Design Review meetings (Kick-Off), monthly contract reviews, and customer project meetings.

4. Works with vendors to ensure the technical requirements of the contract are being met while also meeting cost and delivery commitments.

5. Assists the PM in the handling of customers during inspections, contract review meetings, and performance tests. The Project Engineer will:

  • Prepare contract documentation including performance test reports and operators manuals
  • Initialize upper level Bill of Materials (BOM) for distribution to Engineering Team


    • Initiate document transmittals with customers
    • Manage contract scope with customers to assure alignment with purchase order (P.O.) requirements.
    • Be the Engineering contact for internal scope clarity and compliance.
    • Manage technical documentation; examples include drive motor specifications, data sheets, supplier quotes, internal drawing deliverables, external customer comments, and compiling installation and operation manuals.
    • Manage customer and internal changes via change orders.
    • Maintain proper sizing and releasing of contact accessories including drive motors, dryers, valves, and filters


      The incumbent supports and works closely with the Project Manager (PM) and Design Engineering teams on all assigned contracts. The Project Engineer is the customer-contact for technical matters and, as such, must remain cognizant of contract activities, status, and schedules. The individual will communicate with vendors, field sales, and virtually every department within the organization on a wide variety of technical issues.

      The individual must be technically knowledgeable, conscientious, and detail-oriented with excellent communication skills. The individual must exhibit strong product knowledge, and have a good understanding of engineering, manufacturing, and testing processes.

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical/Electronic Engineering
      • Graduate course work or Master of Science Degree in a technical discipline preferred or equivalent relevant analytical or design experience.
      • Proficient Project Management skills
      • Experience working within a design or technical team environment
      • Self-motivated, innovative, responsible, excellent communication skills, influencing aptitude.

          Capable of performing the following essential physical demands:

          • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
          • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds from floor to waist
          • Must be able to perform single-handed carry up to 15 pounds
          • Must be able to perform two-handed carry up to 50 pounds
          • Must be able to operate motor vehicles with current valid drivers license
          • Must be able to walk on various terrain
          • Depth perception
          • Color vision/perception
          • Hearing of sounds and speech within normal frequency/range
          • Must be able to communicate in written and oral form
          • Must be able to travel
