Job Description:
The Department of Dance and Movement Studies at Hobart and
William Smith Colleges invites applications for a Visiting
Assistant Professor to begin August 1, 2026. This is a full-time,
one-year position with a teaching load of five or six courses over
two semesters. The appointment has the possibility for renewal
contingent on successful annual review and ongoing curricular
needs. We seek a dynamic dance artist, scholar, and educator to
join our department who will both address curricular needs and
expand our current offerings. The successful candidate will be able
to contribute studio courses in introductory and upper-level dance
technique representing any dance/movement practice, dance theory
courses from among dance education, dance history and culture,
dance composition and/or dance research methods, and choreograph
for the annual faculty dance concert. We are especially interested
in expanding our current dance technique offerings to include
street, social, or contemporary dance forms with non-Western roots.
We welcome new courses that would both complement our current
curriculum and offer interdisciplinary opportunities for
collaboration across other departments, for example courses in
dance and technology/digital media, eco-somatics, social movements
and/or hybrid performance forms. For more information on the
department, please visit
https://www.hws.edu/academics/dance/default.aspx . Collaboration in
department concert production, student recruitment and mentorship,
and participation in department leadership activities is required.
