outside of work Job Specification The Assistant Controller will
work alongside the Corporate Controller, to assist with the
delivery of the business units financial and operational
information and assists with the strategic objectives. The
Assistant Controller is responsible for and will provide accurate
and timely financial information with analysis and recommendations
in a format which enables the business to make effective decisions
and plan its strategies, ensuring that the business achieves its
targets. The role will be a key member of the Business unit
management team and the North American Finance team. This role will
form an integral part of the North American Finance function and
will have day to day responsibility for the Business unit financial
and operational reporting. It will interface with the Accounts
Payable and Receivable functions as well as the Payroll
departments. They will have responsibility for timely and accurate
reporting of the business unit's ERP system and well as Hyperion
based reporting system. The Assistant Controller is responsible for
the daily, weekly and monthly reporting, the monthly close,
planning and coordinating plant budget and business planning
activities in alignment with corporate policies and practices. The
incumbent will provide financial direction and recommendations to
improve site performance. The Assistant Controller is a proactive
business partner to the Corporate Controller as well as the North
American accounting team; providing management of financial
activities and working with the site leadership team, and all
departments and levels of employees to drive company growth and
initiatives. Key Responsibilities We measure impact by your
successful ability to:Provide analysis, management reporting,
planning, and accounting support to our growing global
businessPrepare balance sheets and profit and loss statements, and
other financial reportsComplete balance sheet
reconciliationResponsibilities also include:Financial month end
close processDaily, weekly and monthly reporting and
commentaryFinancial analysis and comparison's of current results to
prior year and planCreating and preparing financial analysisTrack
and communicate capital expenditure projectsExcess and obsolete
inventory reviewCollection of accounts receivableAd hoc
reportingAssisting departments and other business unit accounting
personnelSpecial projects as assigned by Vice President of
Finance/Corporate Controller or the CFO of North AmericaSupport the
group's health and safety policy by helping to ensure a safe
working environment for all employees, contractors and visitorsAny
other tasks as assigned by the Vice President of Finance/Corporate
Controller. Daily ActivitiesBuild a daily communications rapport
with the accounting staff of your Business units, tackling
financial issues, strategic direction and day to day financial
tasksEnsure all reconciliations of cash, bank, Fixed Assets, and
PrepaidsProvide support to the back-office team to ensure they are
providing robust, reliable, timely and accurate data and systems in
the following financial functions -Accounts payableAccounts
receivableRecording payroll expense and accruals in the general
ledgerHelp manage and undertake accuracy, timely update and
maintenance of all financial information contained within the
business systemsBe involved in annual inventory counts and where
appropriate implement random spot checks through the year based
upon riskReview, adjust and maintain all financial control
processes on an ongoing basis to ensure control is maintained
Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills Bachelor's degree in
Accounting, Finance or equivalent; Master's degree a plus CPA a
plus, but not required6-8 years proven experience, preferably in a
private sector, multi-site organization; multi-country experience a
plusAdvanced proficiency in MS Excel (V look ups, pivot tables),
Word, Outlook, data mining and ERP systemsQuickBooks, Solomon and
Hyperion system experience a plusStrong knowledge of US financial
regulatory and statutory requirements including familiarity with
standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the accounting
and finance field, including cost accountingExcellent communication
skills, written and verbal Excellent organization, scheduling,
planning, record keeping skills Individual characteristics The
Assistant Controller is ready to provide strong financial guidance
to the organizations they oversee. Someone who is self-motivated, a
self-starter, someone who can manage the financial responsibilities
of the business unit from top to bottom. Our Assistant Controller
must be able to operate in a fluid environment, understand that
priorities and projects are constantly changing and be able to
manage these changes as efficiently as possible. Our ideal
Assistant Controller will have to ability to build strong,
effective relationships with the staff they work with. Excellent
communication and the desire to spend time with people and get to
know the businesses will be critical for success in this role. They
will also need to demonstrate the ability to problem solve and set
and meet high expectations. They will need to be charismatic,
questioning, possess excellent analytical and critical thinking
skills and have a high level of commercial acumen to assist the
