Title: Charitable Foundation Program OfficerLocation: Buffalo, NY Overview:Provide program direction and evaluation to WNY charitable function.Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships with WNY not-for-profit agencies and other foundations to keep abreast of community needs and issues, ensure bank---s values are represented, and help the bank make informed funding decisions.
  • Communicate with grant applicants and grantees; serve as the foundation---s principal contact with priority development officers and executive directors.--
  • Guide prospective nonprofit applicants in developing and shaping grant proposals to best align with M&T values.
  • Evaluate, shape and make recommendations to WNY charitable committee on grant requests in order to ensure effectiveness of M&T---s strategic funding investments and positioning, within existing budget constraints.
  • Monitor performance and progress of recipient agencies to ensure consistency with provisions of grants.
  • Represent the foundation on funder collaboratives to address priority community needs.
  • Work with bank nonprofit board members, other related bank departments and resource groups to connect/leverage common missions.
  • Initiate contacts with corporate communications regarding appropriate charitable initiatives.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company---s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company---s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.Scope of Responsibilities:Ensures bank charitable funding is allocated effectively; supports bank---s community banking values and advances bank---s reputation as a responsible corporate citizen.Ability to maintain relationships and work productively with nonprofit community-based organizations, other foundation and corporate funders, and maintain close working relationships with other bank charitable regions, bank CRA, ESG, resource groups and other appropriate internal bank functions.Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:Not applicableEducation and Experience Required:--Bachelor---s degree and or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 11 years--- higher education and/or work experience.Previous charitable/grantmaking or nonprofit services experience.Education and Experience Preferred:
    • Grantmaking or nonprofit work experience; community relations, public affairs background helpful.
    • A broad knowledge of the key civic and community issues facing the WNY region.
    • A personal commitment to improving the quality of life for residents of the WNY region.
    • Strong analytical skills and ability to be a strategic thinker.
    • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, experiences and cultures.
    • Excellent verbal, written communication and negotiation skills.
    • Self-starter, with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
    • Team player, committed to collaboration both within the foundation, the bank and in the community.-- ----
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with all levels.
    • Proficiency with MS Office.
